peer editing
The Comment feature in the Google apps is great to foster peer editing. Students just need to share their document with a classmate or two. When they see something they would like to comment on the student puts the cursor in the sentence and then clicks Add Comment. Now what they type will show up on their classmates document with their name on it. This is helpful if more than one student is doing a peer edit. This works great for collaboration for teachers too. The comment feature allows for quick and easy conversations to take place about a document. Once the suggestion has been read it can be resolved which takes it out of the display. A user can still view all the comments by going to the comment window.
Students enjoy using this feature to peer edit a document. This can be done with Docs, Sheets and Slides.

Google Classroom
Google Classroom is one of your G-Suite apps. To get started click on the square of dots where you have access to all of the apps available in through Google For Education. Once in the Classroom app click on the + on the top right and select Create Class. Once your class is created you can add student manually or give them your class code. This can be found on the Students tab. When you create a class you will have 3 tabs, Stream, Students and About.
Stream
On this tab you will post Announcements, Assignments, Questions and Reuse Posts.
Announcements can be sent to the entire class or just certain students.
Assignments can take the form of templates sent out to the students or asking the students to create a document. Classroom will automatically put the student's name on the assignment when they open the assignment. Once they turn it in the assignment will appear in a folder in the teacher's Drive folder under Classroom and then the name of the class. Each assignment will be given a folder to help you keep all the student work organized. If a student turns in an assignment but wasn't really finished they can unsubmit the assignment, make the changes and submit it again. If the students tried to open the assignment after turning it in without unsubmitting the file will be a read only and they won't be able to make any changes.
YouTube videos, files from your computers, files from Drive and links can be attached to announcements and assignments.
Questions feature allows you to ask a single question. It can be multiple choice or short answer. You can also allow the students to respond to each other.
Classroom is also a good differentiating tool. You can send assignments, questions or announcements to everyone or just certain students.
Give it a try. If you need help contact your ITRT.
